1:12th scale miniature home set in the 1950sKath Cryerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11113968650589409662noreply@blogger.comBlogger47125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3291861005387968477.post-87422724845172845322020-07-12T14:18:00.004+01:002020-07-13T13:05:02.028+01:00A little update.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can't quite believe it is now July 2020 and what a year it is turning out to be! During lockdown I’ve been reading through my Blogs and see that this one is seriously out of date! Here I am, letting you know that my Mountfield is still being added to and loved. I'm still enjoying this house just as much as ever and seeing it standing there gives me a lot of joy as I walk by it each day, not quite believing How far it has come!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My son once said to me years ago when I began this miniature hobby "What happens when it's finished Mum? " I said to him back then that it would give me pleasure just looking at it - and I do! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now that all of the major work in terms of building, decorating and electrifying are done I'm now happy just adding all the little bits which 'makes a house a home' and can you believe even finishing off some things like the curtains! I always seem to leave them until the last!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are a few more up to date photos.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">For the main bedroom I looked for a long time for a dressing table like my Mum and Dad had but I've never been able to find one. I found this one which is abit different to a lot I've seen so decided to use it, for the time being anyway. It was a bare wood one which I've stained and waxed.</div>

There are lots so there has been plenty to have a go at!! Eight in total and that's not counting the french door in the dining room...<br />
I've already shared the kitchen curtains but they're worth showing again.<br />

<br />
The front bay window is a very large one with a good sized window sill for displaying things on. I made a wooden pelmet for it and stained it to match the rest of the woodwork in the room. The material I've used is very similar to the curtains I remember us having.<br />

Nearly all the curtains are prints of some kind. You will notice that nothing much matches up with each other in the rooms and this was how it was in those days - if the curtains fit the window that was good! It was a pair of curtains and that was that! If they did happen to go with the overall colour scheme it was more a matter of good luck than good judgement....<br />
I will update this page when I've got the other curtains finished - only the bathroom, parents bedroom, dining room and childrens room to go!</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBHFBVX-ZLLvV9ro1dLml7U2_dg15ZJJNKc34CFIE2F6xdwGrPmCVxAT0KGbbNp0dAvoi-PiswPCg2FQmbXxiVqan5H656yQ6hRbRWGPTOtifQxMsiCaP3yiS9qNJJr8cNuSZWbt3Q0EY/s1600/DINING+ROOM+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBHFBVX-ZLLvV9ro1dLml7U2_dg15ZJJNKc34CFIE2F6xdwGrPmCVxAT0KGbbNp0dAvoi-PiswPCg2FQmbXxiVqan5H656yQ6hRbRWGPTOtifQxMsiCaP3yiS9qNJJr8cNuSZWbt3Q0EY/s400/DINING+ROOM+%25282%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Maybe it's because when we were growing up we didn't have a separate dining room -
our big dining table was in our large sitting room in a huge bay window
area. As children we used it mainly for colouring and playing games on.
I can't remember ever using it for eating on at all (but we must have
done on occasion I suppose) Mostly our meals were had in the kitchen
which was a good size.<br />
It's been rather confusing as
to how to get this room right.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidafA3JfnYevg20MON6Lh7JVsa7VGcPhYBAE3VecZmX9uFYOVehtwz1mupDOcIklt5AqZamqQvh44tkJ5U_JF5zYCdXlKhv0WVf-uS6LFVfVeS7t7aAL-P9OKHBjZebDyvzKkdX9zuztg/s1600/DINING+ROOM+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidafA3JfnYevg20MON6Lh7JVsa7VGcPhYBAE3VecZmX9uFYOVehtwz1mupDOcIklt5AqZamqQvh44tkJ5U_JF5zYCdXlKhv0WVf-uS6LFVfVeS7t7aAL-P9OKHBjZebDyvzKkdX9zuztg/s640/DINING+ROOM+%25283%2529.JPG" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
<div>
The dining table and chairs and bureau look similar to the ones that my Grandma gave to my parents. We had a few 'hand me downs' pieces of furniture as did many in the 50s and 60s. The overall look of homes in those days was a 'mish mash' of many styles and eras! But it was home...<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
I have two Jane Harrop fireside chairs to make up which will be positioned near the fireplace (I just hope they will fit in!)<br />
<br />

<br />
I'm also toying with the idea of fitting a delft rack around the room...more to follow!<br />

As I've mentioned throughout the blog I have been trying to fashion this house on my childhood in the late fifties and early sixties. My brother and I had twin divan beds with wooden headboards and try as I might I didn't seem able to find anything like that in 1:12th scale. My first thought was to make them from scratch but after seeing a couple of cheap little beds at a fair I decided altering these would be the easiest way to go.<br />
<div>
This is the one I found..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdUZolqLGA7iusU01TCB7IU8ht_CbjxLymQnBsibVtSWMMhBPS8_HVtmBhbW3aibjnJEQ7XsXAKj3EBAk2KV7H2jbnrnRSrNeXNQA8opWg2K8R89z4cOviiJ8Q8uo0H7Uk0DEC8JOQgMA/s1600/childrens+bed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdUZolqLGA7iusU01TCB7IU8ht_CbjxLymQnBsibVtSWMMhBPS8_HVtmBhbW3aibjnJEQ7XsXAKj3EBAk2KV7H2jbnrnRSrNeXNQA8opWg2K8R89z4cOviiJ8Q8uo0H7Uk0DEC8JOQgMA/s320/childrens+bed.jpg" width="319" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I then had to begin the task of taking it all apart and removing the foot board and getting it back together!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuR1nF5lydSBOvp6lAizEC8QlRRdHhpsjQenDz4lgWuxRlmppMJl65cZXy_nJZwlStOGTbf0GQ4vaBDYTOwRVi3Lc0YQoBfLznJARV_QbO89XR6FU_AAKeMWkScXVZxBcS8Hq3Mr444sU/s640/blogger-image-1204602724.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuR1nF5lydSBOvp6lAizEC8QlRRdHhpsjQenDz4lgWuxRlmppMJl65cZXy_nJZwlStOGTbf0GQ4vaBDYTOwRVi3Lc0YQoBfLznJARV_QbO89XR6FU_AAKeMWkScXVZxBcS8Hq3Mr444sU/s400/blogger-image-1204602724.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
By taking off the foot board and staining the headboard in a 'teaky' colour this gave me something as near to the ones we had. Next some bedding....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDMFHsIzqCTU6KjciglAO4tx4_8ftG3tn82cyx3DJ0PBiAzdPK4OqMxWYkY0N-64ESw-0eW4Vt_1tFlBnFETF3uksizrul01w4dc2yYozjTWfpd0RoFVb4OZ7KSPnJAPQLTnzyaovaF3E/s640/blogger-image-708451579.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDMFHsIzqCTU6KjciglAO4tx4_8ftG3tn82cyx3DJ0PBiAzdPK4OqMxWYkY0N-64ESw-0eW4Vt_1tFlBnFETF3uksizrul01w4dc2yYozjTWfpd0RoFVb4OZ7KSPnJAPQLTnzyaovaF3E/s640/blogger-image-708451579.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Candlewick bedspreads were the next stumbling block. I've not been able to find anything to replicate this in miniature apart from some cotton fabric with a candlewick type pattern on it. And it seems to have done the job.....(I couldn't find candy striped sheets either!) I just need to make some eiderdowns now.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgum_F848WFgH9HGuExWCSeskIhhJzs0eHxqrN07KRzqbcN4IqNvj5Z7eTttD7LQ1M8ntGw_Swp9HBkKvJzfooKk1kqO_VMbGb7tFuxlAdohhf5y-HwoiEwz__OgAvRKhgrlfQheNJvqlY/s640/blogger-image-132337063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgum_F848WFgH9HGuExWCSeskIhhJzs0eHxqrN07KRzqbcN4IqNvj5Z7eTttD7LQ1M8ntGw_Swp9HBkKvJzfooKk1kqO_VMbGb7tFuxlAdohhf5y-HwoiEwz__OgAvRKhgrlfQheNJvqlY/s640/blogger-image-132337063.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The chair between the two divans is one made up from a Jane Harrop kit. I didn't want anything too big or too fancy and this has done the job nicely I think. A chair like this was our bedside table when we were little!<br />
No bedside lights in those days! Well not until we were much older....</div>
<div>

I seem to remember ours in the fifties was more modern than the very old fashioned gas cookers that are available in miniature. With this in mind I opted for one from Elf Miniatures rather than the Phoenix white metal one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1RkmyNtxsPGMncH2SI7fdvc6kvLfRa-MvUynaYpC79YY6HlkGlaoWF1PESwf6-CNXbhT5CC7pipc-l84u1nF-eIhhwwgULVk_k5ROnNrNDrutBtzldr1Cr4spADuEDmUgHXhQxdNqipo/s1600/IMG_2606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1RkmyNtxsPGMncH2SI7fdvc6kvLfRa-MvUynaYpC79YY6HlkGlaoWF1PESwf6-CNXbhT5CC7pipc-l84u1nF-eIhhwwgULVk_k5ROnNrNDrutBtzldr1Cr4spADuEDmUgHXhQxdNqipo/s1600/IMG_2606.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This one is the nearest I could get in similarity to the one we had at home.<br />
I think it looks ok back in the corner there.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1yrxSbHPQrg82gA5XmWxmZyQVjwO6jTKMqHego-A-Z6eUc9HXcdWIYnhu5XJb5vydlHQ3XZ1h8RQVie6Yyqv9VWbZ7eW0xt49nVQIeczqL375c2uHW3IvIDgN67ZU1o9EeVgUr1ATesM/s1600/IMG_2620.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1yrxSbHPQrg82gA5XmWxmZyQVjwO6jTKMqHego-A-Z6eUc9HXcdWIYnhu5XJb5vydlHQ3XZ1h8RQVie6Yyqv9VWbZ7eW0xt49nVQIeczqL375c2uHW3IvIDgN67ZU1o9EeVgUr1ATesM/s1600/IMG_2620.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I've added a few bits to the kitchen cabinet too.<br />

The white metals ones are always abit of a headache for me as the pieces are so very tiny - however I've managed them and I'm pleased with them.<br />
<br />
First I put together this little chair., it needs painting yet and will go in the childrens' room - a chair was my only bedside table when my brother and I were growing up so this will do the job nicely.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjctKJylksAef9je6xKh4qUssiWsRcKY6LMU76w3NFillbFPb-fdD4wz_u-iA4eZ5j864DfennIpkUuEjvXNxgjt2K2Dfjo1-7LFqEsZMQGbZt1mEj___bv1ZOlX1m02bNR49z2jM4ywU4/s1600/IMG_2603.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjctKJylksAef9je6xKh4qUssiWsRcKY6LMU76w3NFillbFPb-fdD4wz_u-iA4eZ5j864DfennIpkUuEjvXNxgjt2K2Dfjo1-7LFqEsZMQGbZt1mEj___bv1ZOlX1m02bNR49z2jM4ywU4/s1600/IMG_2603.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Next I made up a tiny stool and box to go in the kitchen. Jane's kits are lovely to do. You do need a gluing jig though to keep the parts properly aligned and square but she has some great, authentic little things.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJkVA-FqVnIVeXtTNb67B-FnAuN-vV5PbIlmJityqwg3s3a1RMwfvH1vqvq9S898Hz0_Lqk3nbMWa4iQTLKXyCndeCOyVpXDK_Tg6zBpCf6D6gbk7etJGafEKzmTvCotg3_3JEmExEwPw/s1600/IMG_2604.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJkVA-FqVnIVeXtTNb67B-FnAuN-vV5PbIlmJityqwg3s3a1RMwfvH1vqvq9S898Hz0_Lqk3nbMWa4iQTLKXyCndeCOyVpXDK_Tg6zBpCf6D6gbk7etJGafEKzmTvCotg3_3JEmExEwPw/s1600/IMG_2604.JPG" height="640" width="560" /></a></div>
<br />
I thought a cardboard box would come in handy for under the sink...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrbl1_VdpVD04J6JGqnEagsqNBZT3w-WHmd-Tb7Q18FKj2sWnPXQ245aiuaIsWj-drjP6cMQXpgWMdjw5pVJ6v8gB3roTQZ8cV2HyGLKrmi9dTP3-9tSXWomYSjJSVQBSD42cTx0o5THA/s1600/IMG_2605.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrbl1_VdpVD04J6JGqnEagsqNBZT3w-WHmd-Tb7Q18FKj2sWnPXQ245aiuaIsWj-drjP6cMQXpgWMdjw5pVJ6v8gB3roTQZ8cV2HyGLKrmi9dTP3-9tSXWomYSjJSVQBSD42cTx0o5THA/s1600/IMG_2605.JPG" height="640" width="540" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And onto the Phoenix kits.....<br />
<br />
The Ascot water heater looked difficult and that's why I've put it off for ages - all those tiny pieces! I couldn't even find it at first, that's how long it's been. Anyway it's turned out ok, though unfortunately I didn't have much space left when I came to add it to the kitchen - it's a little too near the curtains for my liking but I'm thinking that health and safety weren't as strict then as they are now! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ever since I saw the Phoeonix coke stove/back boiler made up I knew I would like it in this house as it's identical to the one we had at home.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4J-1njGPVz8QIzsP3Kttu0ikkIdBv42W5Z0Fq8gwLQrWA_XV6QxDcT-RW_V4mFg2BvqKwSbggYjBgI3AU5DMWo91pOTrwCcfL3Ugl3RIIZVGEwJhrUSr9B_d2mTN1BGUoqDIQ9hYlYOo/s1600/IMG_2610.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4J-1njGPVz8QIzsP3Kttu0ikkIdBv42W5Z0Fq8gwLQrWA_XV6QxDcT-RW_V4mFg2BvqKwSbggYjBgI3AU5DMWo91pOTrwCcfL3Ugl3RIIZVGEwJhrUSr9B_d2mTN1BGUoqDIQ9hYlYOo/s1600/IMG_2610.JPG" height="640" width="480" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've painted it the same colour as ours was and put in a red bulb and
left the ash grate door slightly open. I have memories of our cat Dinky
snuggling up to sleep against it, she used to get so close that her tail
singed!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM5tNZSFf8dy-YzNNsT3uYt9z7IX0rLM51WVtxRVA3kTV8rZ4vf7S0btXU-mUzn4ZTHSVzP00F93YpwWuLbVJhLPsi5PZgrqF-rzqzHXTZnyO-SwPEZXGFzMRB87IszZ5R4LxeKBh3hwE/s1600/IMG_2613.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM5tNZSFf8dy-YzNNsT3uYt9z7IX0rLM51WVtxRVA3kTV8rZ4vf7S0btXU-mUzn4ZTHSVzP00F93YpwWuLbVJhLPsi5PZgrqF-rzqzHXTZnyO-SwPEZXGFzMRB87IszZ5R4LxeKBh3hwE/s1600/IMG_2613.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Delph cupboard I made up is amazing. It has glazed, sliding doors and a sloping front which were quite in vogue at this time. I struggled abit with it, gluing it together back to front at first (don't ask me how) but my hubby noticed it - I hate that - but I'm glad he pointed it out before I got any further on in the building of it...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt7huKhGURDisbFDiNfpqtNneRZmwrIyZiRE0IzmmjQol1sn20Q8P7kK_mFo9qO8ULXNsHHy66dVgAcO6dFuzWj4KfEEc5deD0ph8kHKrpz3jVW1VKqb21mgtJ6LLpJU9PGRx_YcEu2dA/s1600/IMG_2616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt7huKhGURDisbFDiNfpqtNneRZmwrIyZiRE0IzmmjQol1sn20Q8P7kK_mFo9qO8ULXNsHHy66dVgAcO6dFuzWj4KfEEc5deD0ph8kHKrpz3jVW1VKqb21mgtJ6LLpJU9PGRx_YcEu2dA/s1600/IMG_2616.JPG" height="640" width="480" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I painted it blue (nothing matched in our house) and filled it with crockery. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Shelf lining. We always had shelf linings. </div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love the way the doors slide and the front of the cupboard slopes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So that's it for the kits at the moment. I have some easy chairs to do for the dining room but they'll have to wait as I need some suitable material to cover them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ38h9bPLps0-HhxihlqfDRLwoeX4SP5KL_6YRakTsUAlQ_iRUcmJezuOVOdroanmjY49R8mri8vzJKzqaoflFtcddCzckTLGCBjtI9nXD149Ux3ffzPjFVt6W3jFITXCDZTKkVymML9k/s1600/IMG_2631.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ38h9bPLps0-HhxihlqfDRLwoeX4SP5KL_6YRakTsUAlQ_iRUcmJezuOVOdroanmjY49R8mri8vzJKzqaoflFtcddCzckTLGCBjtI9nXD149Ux3ffzPjFVt6W3jFITXCDZTKkVymML9k/s1600/IMG_2631.JPG" height="640" width="480"></a></div>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This time I routed the wire along behind the skirting board and again addded a little socket and plug.<br>
Once I had the wire through to the pantry, heading in the right direction for the back of the property, I drilled a hole down through a corner in the pantry floor where it wouldn't be seen underneath the tiles.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXa39be7fWbQlrr2JlOcMJz3evuLWWHe_WW9-XBDXHBEo1hq3I3aGXikMCHX1xhkJnZiQmzyaqLLZTWy6clBfY-b4GUKYIeZUI6owYhfjbsILwb949UhvVYjFmbQHwMupeE_G_7Co0zao/s1600/IMG_2636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXa39be7fWbQlrr2JlOcMJz3evuLWWHe_WW9-XBDXHBEo1hq3I3aGXikMCHX1xhkJnZiQmzyaqLLZTWy6clBfY-b4GUKYIeZUI6owYhfjbsILwb949UhvVYjFmbQHwMupeE_G_7Co0zao/s1600/IMG_2636.JPG" height="640" width="480"></a></div>
<br>
This took the wire underneath the house where I covered it with sticky back carpet to protect it and which also helps when I need to move the house around with it being 3 dimensional.<br>
So now I have a lovely lit lamp in the hallway.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Whilst I was in the hallway I added the stringer to the side of the stairs and a few 'oak' beams.<br>

</div>
I thought it was time I updated what I've been up to recently (not before time I hear you say....) Now that the gardening has slowed down and Autumn is here the miniature bug has got me again and I've been doing a few of those jobs I've been putting off.....<br />
<br />
As I said earlier in the blog wiring this house is quite a challenge as it's a 3d property. I was fine doing the ceiling lights but it was the extra ones that I didn't think of like the nursery lamp, the standard lamp and fire in the living room and the table lamp in the hallway...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdZiu9hvQl6xp4wSZ0yDyanqzCLZfTgxBazWXg1kpzF60JIB0hmo5UDAd5HL7-yYAB8s8cuhlQikuMHjZ-NevtjH0f1BAqhfIrbkK0R5xu5WjoFUo8bbo7mw2cGgs8OCaN5mM85FivxjE/s1600/with+furniture+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdZiu9hvQl6xp4wSZ0yDyanqzCLZfTgxBazWXg1kpzF60JIB0hmo5UDAd5HL7-yYAB8s8cuhlQikuMHjZ-NevtjH0f1BAqhfIrbkK0R5xu5WjoFUo8bbo7mw2cGgs8OCaN5mM85FivxjE/s1600/with+furniture+1.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
First I had to work out a route to take the wires to the back. In the case of the living room I had to drill down through the floor in the corner behind the tv and take the wire down and along a groove underneath the house. Next another hole was drilled up through and onto the side 'pathway' - this involved taking up 'slabs' I had already laid - much to my annoyance - Then I stuck down a copper tape run and connected the wires to that. The 'slabs' were relaid - albeit it abit bumpy here and there - but I can live with that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2sZE-f6xeo5-jf50ygtzSQ2U8ofwEfhRSyG12ToVZQ5RHy7FvnVG4Qcn0UT-US7ca0V1Hl_W4EwKCPn3k0fPWY4SeOb7C8OzmkBceyr3f_TGA0Obe28t_lqQCfPqIKeZ2z3ctmolq84g/s1600/IMG_2637.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2sZE-f6xeo5-jf50ygtzSQ2U8ofwEfhRSyG12ToVZQ5RHy7FvnVG4Qcn0UT-US7ca0V1Hl_W4EwKCPn3k0fPWY4SeOb7C8OzmkBceyr3f_TGA0Obe28t_lqQCfPqIKeZ2z3ctmolq84g/s1600/IMG_2637.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
At least we now have a working fire and lamp.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtUYuQP8P1qiq5ZKySbFlxBdSJbTkI2gkR6ccIueMFacc8jobV2kacJDcgRR5OO7UpoVIDfp2LsVawL4TFxCx65lKT7flGu12_lSYXk00uESQzZfUqUYjf-Fi4gs-p8P7Yzj-VwINDMlc/s1600/IMG_2634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtUYuQP8P1qiq5ZKySbFlxBdSJbTkI2gkR6ccIueMFacc8jobV2kacJDcgRR5OO7UpoVIDfp2LsVawL4TFxCx65lKT7flGu12_lSYXk00uESQzZfUqUYjf-Fi4gs-p8P7Yzj-VwINDMlc/s1600/IMG_2634.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
In the nursery it was just as tricky! The wire here needed routing to the back of the house too (at this stage I was really wishing I'd thought ahead more) so I spent quite some time looking and thinking, trying to puzzle out which would be the best solution and one which would make the least mess! Gradually I came up with the idea of getting the wire up into the 'attic space' above...but how?<br />
The picture below shows the location of the said lamp. This room is at the front of the house......<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhviOjvEnARfsBg2EScBhEROU_MTtBTFIqHV2s7qhvu5UJRAwbqT6RG2QKLX507J2Oda0kFTTA6lh3EVwU_KqECfqdYaSZ4pfdjqlIMi2-spENKqZarmdLYzOyAxiolMlJQ3uYqeddWmoI/s1600/with+furniture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhviOjvEnARfsBg2EScBhEROU_MTtBTFIqHV2s7qhvu5UJRAwbqT6RG2QKLX507J2Oda0kFTTA6lh3EVwU_KqECfqdYaSZ4pfdjqlIMi2-spENKqZarmdLYzOyAxiolMlJQ3uYqeddWmoI/s1600/with+furniture.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHfFh8iR6qNyMlbgvMLlMz7vvb8KsdZpJNni2nuWm1xMprK0i6AJYz-w3Kr2_-7Gu7wkuoH2_4Ihvofe_TwFHaSICB3puxSckuEqzAF57HYIT87Zg0gL-o-U9CTB6ewdz8FgkSKXuTZx4/s1600/blogger-image-1683434907.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHfFh8iR6qNyMlbgvMLlMz7vvb8KsdZpJNni2nuWm1xMprK0i6AJYz-w3Kr2_-7Gu7wkuoH2_4Ihvofe_TwFHaSICB3puxSckuEqzAF57HYIT87Zg0gL-o-U9CTB6ewdz8FgkSKXuTZx4/s1600/blogger-image-1683434907.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Firstly I removed the piece of skirting board next to the door architrave - thankfully it was only wedged in as it was a tight fit - then I drilled a small hole through to the landing and took the wire up the side of the bedroom door and on up to the ceiling where I made a hole to take it up into the attic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
From there I was able to run it along the attic floor and take it through to the back of the house where I connected it to the copper tape run. I also had to remember to make a hole in the skirting for the wire and I attached a tiny plug and socket.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil7YcAZvrSKkY7l5fPhjFYsbfPTxJ7KeKT6lif0Jm9Ze40rC-ma35SXK4Wf1PpCS8gUT6zs8ghbMLrEi7VWQxoL0zOKjolUFaV11RzYKpLcTJKW9BYl7fDfepeb1-ogkEAQIPAjwysMJg/s1600/IMG_2639.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil7YcAZvrSKkY7l5fPhjFYsbfPTxJ7KeKT6lif0Jm9Ze40rC-ma35SXK4Wf1PpCS8gUT6zs8ghbMLrEi7VWQxoL0zOKjolUFaV11RzYKpLcTJKW9BYl7fDfepeb1-ogkEAQIPAjwysMJg/s1600/IMG_2639.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Drilling down from the attic floor was a nightmare in itself, making
sure my hole came out into just the right place! I wouldn't want to do that again in a
hurry....Below you can see where I had to take the wire up in the corner between the two doors on the landing... it's not ideal but even in real life this is what often had to be done if a new light or socket was needed somewhere. It's much less noticable than this as the photo is very close up.... (need to fix that wonky picture rail - that's the trouble with taking big pictures!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMgP6-SJYNIromcBG0VdFoaomB7XWohDXAWtu03MUQGFxIFuWPyDO8FSoCJa5oAxgZC2B7pATo6oCdftVXnx4fEv3QVoF5x-3bvFQzBt3IYzpZH6O9wpQJ0rjCjPCTneXQvcWg8XG0EOw/s1600/IMG_2640.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMgP6-SJYNIromcBG0VdFoaomB7XWohDXAWtu03MUQGFxIFuWPyDO8FSoCJa5oAxgZC2B7pATo6oCdftVXnx4fEv3QVoF5x-3bvFQzBt3IYzpZH6O9wpQJ0rjCjPCTneXQvcWg8XG0EOw/s1600/IMG_2640.JPG" height="400" width="397" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So having tackled these two lighting issues I thought I may as well carry</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
on and try to do the hallway table lamp too. Again lots of thinking and planning.......my next post will tell you all about that one!</div>

<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I've scanned a few more black and white family photos from my childhood. I've spent a happy few hours going through these photos of my family and resizing them to include in here...</span></div>
The lovely frames on top of the tv and the radio and the clock on the sideboard are from <a href="http://www.hallsminiatureclocks.com/index.html" target="_blank">Halls Miniature Clocks </a><br />
They sell some beautiful items and the chap who makes them is lovely to talk to and so clever at what he does. I will certainly be going back for more unfortunately for my bank account!<br />

I have a 'running' list which I'm always adding to and loosely refer to it when I'm at a fair so I looked out for the items on there and added a few more along the way...as you do.<br />
Among all the other things I talked myself into getting, I was glad to be able to buy the lovely book from <a href="http://www.dee-dawdesigns.com/index.htm" target="_blank">Dee Daw Designs</a> chronicling the build of the <a href="http://www.dee-dawdesigns.com/page19.htm" target="_blank">Featherstone Hall Hotel Dollshouse </a>This dollshouse was featured as a series in the Dollshouse and Miniature Scene Magazine and now fully built, tours various dollshouse fairs throughout the uk. With lots of great, big photos showing how this beautiful property was built and information about all the tiny detailed accessories and dolls which bring it to life, I think it will prove to be quite a good resource book to add to my ever growing library - a great buy!<br />

<br /></div>
I didn't get around to sharing what I bought at Pudsey Fair a couple of weeks ago, a few of which were for the nursery.<br />
<div>
I'm at the stage of adding the little details with this room now and just couldn't resist this tiny hand knitted dress from </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I've put it on a hanger so that I can hook it onto the drawer handle as it's too pretty not to have it out on display. It's such exquisite work, just look at the tiny smocking detail and the pattern around the hemline!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I'm so pleased with it..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I also bought a cute little knitted bunny and a covered hot water bottle which encouraged me to get the cot dressed. How lovely are they...? </div>

I've just finished painting the little Phoenix fire today and now I need to work out how I'm going to wire up the table lamp on the chest of drawers...I just didn't think about the extra lights like this and forgot to do that during the build! Because the house is 3d this might prove difficult to do.... </div>

Time has flown since I last posted but just so you don't think I've deserted my Mountfield altogether here are a few photos I've taken recently....<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not a great deal to show but I've added one or two bits.This is a bare wood sideboard, stained and waxed.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBbdVIxFwQ52KAxBFBC8RLmkOXtBW-xHw_oCRYTztB_IdkptC_yYf_ymJ867P0hC6PHhLzQY9h1tDHcPoynnt9w41Y7JkkerdXZubYJTT9gbSdnQT3Wnt3hHaFHexH6mwu1wYhsYn7Qxo/s1600/sideboard.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBbdVIxFwQ52KAxBFBC8RLmkOXtBW-xHw_oCRYTztB_IdkptC_yYf_ymJ867P0hC6PHhLzQY9h1tDHcPoynnt9w41Y7JkkerdXZubYJTT9gbSdnQT3Wnt3hHaFHexH6mwu1wYhsYn7Qxo/s1600/sideboard.JPG" height="239" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've placed it behind the sofa - I need to put a few more ornaments and photos on there. I've added a couple of pictures on the walls. The one above the sideboard is a photo of my Dad, scanned and resized. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've recovered the lampshade on the standard lamp which looks abit more realistic now I think... </div>

The bathroom suite arrived this week and after thinking I would never find one suitable for the era, I must say that I'm really pleased with it...!</div>
<div>
I will 'tweak' it here and there eg paint the loo seat black (which will be more in keeping with the 1950s) and maybe think about changing the taps eventually but overall I'm happy with how it looks.....</div>

<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I've used Richard Stacey black and white vinyl tiles for the floor. They were a dream to lay, they're so accurately cut and it was just a matter of using a tiny amount of pva glue....</span><br />

<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">As with the walls I made templates of the floor and then stuck the tiles onto that. This will enable me to slide the whole floor out if ever I need to replace the lighting in the kitchen below.....I've never had to do this in a house yet but you can bet your bottom dollar, the one time I don't make a floor removable something would go wrong! <div>
I've now got all the tiles stuck onto the templates and done a 'dry run' of putting them into position in the house.<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Here is what they look like in situ...</span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> Before they can be finally stuck in, I need the flooring down.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRgMFnzRal5NCVl7HYAQcAPd4jlnUSLgciHR_-Dhof4nYIw8bibRapy7ePsombLt2nWgQqc-Sk86UvT7ftLoHJuECBK3NeUoOPN7DVqysQavnALgfWkZg3SFitJCGuvfwTLivESh-g1UU/s1600/blogger-image--1821718744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRgMFnzRal5NCVl7HYAQcAPd4jlnUSLgciHR_-Dhof4nYIw8bibRapy7ePsombLt2nWgQqc-Sk86UvT7ftLoHJuECBK3NeUoOPN7DVqysQavnALgfWkZg3SFitJCGuvfwTLivESh-g1UU/s1600/blogger-image--1821718744.jpg" height="320" width="273" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
There were a couple of areas where the tiles needed trimming back a little and apart from one cracked tile I managed to do that without too much bother. I've left the cracked tile as trying to faff about replacing it would probably have resulted in more mess. I figured that in a house this age there would have been the odd cracked tile, so for the sake of realism and ease it's staying!</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">At the bottom of the walls I've used some 1/24th scale skirting board which I've painted black and scored to look like edging tiles...</span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I've decided to give the bathroom a complete makeover since adding the airing cupboard.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I'd bought some beautiful wall tiles from <a href="http://dollhouse-miniatures.co.uk/">Traditional Elegance Dollshouse Tiles</a> when I first got the house and then didn't use them! Going for the quicker option instead in my haste to get the house all decorated....</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The room is all stripped back now and ready for painting. I'm keeping the walls white, tempting as it is to put up a patterned wallpaper!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxRGm0V8vWkeD8KiPnm20pSf04kzmNun1xK4k67mS6_GIDmo-aCTx-6RyIIDbBatxHiSdn5z-Q_Il-K-BZ1LbX6CFDUStjZP4d4RcxpN_7_edxqkFz_mqEq-9731XLo2NBtjoAlMEWg2s/s1600/decoration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxRGm0V8vWkeD8KiPnm20pSf04kzmNun1xK4k67mS6_GIDmo-aCTx-6RyIIDbBatxHiSdn5z-Q_Il-K-BZ1LbX6CFDUStjZP4d4RcxpN_7_edxqkFz_mqEq-9731XLo2NBtjoAlMEWg2s/s640/decoration.jpg" height="640" width="520" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Each tiny tile is being glued onto a heavy quality paper first. I chose paper over card as I didn't want too much bulk...doing the tiling this way, flat on a table out of the house is much easier than trying to struggle laying them directly on to the walls inside the house itself</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;"></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
I think these new tiles are much more in keeping with the era and also the beauty of laying them individually like this means I can choose how I want the pattern to look...</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Here they are transferred into the house on the paper ready to be stuck on...</div>

The airing cupboard is now glued into the corner of the bathroom, complete with tank and full of household 'linens'</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLbjzWdsPhUrAFnzI9UxPi_gkIQC5UdLr_oB_cfh34w4S0q2IbzlCCNPz5i81VPDav9Ei88A_iv6eR37_0ybpXEC92DBIJ0HBlgMBKXv0URDBNu9ihO8BJRuAqJuNc1seEsFPvF8TwBto/s1600/tank3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLbjzWdsPhUrAFnzI9UxPi_gkIQC5UdLr_oB_cfh34w4S0q2IbzlCCNPz5i81VPDav9Ei88A_iv6eR37_0ybpXEC92DBIJ0HBlgMBKXv0URDBNu9ihO8BJRuAqJuNc1seEsFPvF8TwBto/s640/tank3.jpg" width="396" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had great fun searching through all my scraps of materials and arranging them on the shelves </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikRU7hoC1fV-XAybjePz0pik4QJrf_4TbMxTMm2LxHOdnvVRTQAHKfie6PGfcBtkTUygLQDkvivJkse9OHVit4Q-M1PG9p-RaPyGuOVU5FlvqimBnWxfchyphenhyphen3sUGwJdiRWi6AN3gM6SlYM/s1600/tank+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikRU7hoC1fV-XAybjePz0pik4QJrf_4TbMxTMm2LxHOdnvVRTQAHKfie6PGfcBtkTUygLQDkvivJkse9OHVit4Q-M1PG9p-RaPyGuOVU5FlvqimBnWxfchyphenhyphen3sUGwJdiRWi6AN3gM6SlYM/s640/tank+2.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Then I needed to add the ' required plumbing' - amazing what you can do with an empty paint container, cocktail sticks, beads, glue and paint!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUqczLWORqLHEOWt5sJbpcc3-fWQJWWT_ipFNh_hCeKWGXh31Vu6gqsHgWKbXwSSN9G3x03_NwXnsywvd31eQH_3eafYH-V-emEBAGS7RT5T325Pb0CYuC03wd9p9SF81QbBOb_KBSUIE/s1600/tank.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUqczLWORqLHEOWt5sJbpcc3-fWQJWWT_ipFNh_hCeKWGXh31Vu6gqsHgWKbXwSSN9G3x03_NwXnsywvd31eQH_3eafYH-V-emEBAGS7RT5T325Pb0CYuC03wd9p9SF81QbBOb_KBSUIE/s640/tank.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Of course gluing it in place wasn't straightforward! Something can't have been quite square and there were gaps where the cupboard met the ceiling and adjacent walls. I wanted it to look as if it had been built in when the house was built so out came the Polyfilla and that was soon fixed!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxRGm0V8vWkeD8KiPnm20pSf04kzmNun1xK4k67mS6_GIDmo-aCTx-6RyIIDbBatxHiSdn5z-Q_Il-K-BZ1LbX6CFDUStjZP4d4RcxpN_7_edxqkFz_mqEq-9731XLo2NBtjoAlMEWg2s/s1600/decoration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxRGm0V8vWkeD8KiPnm20pSf04kzmNun1xK4k67mS6_GIDmo-aCTx-6RyIIDbBatxHiSdn5z-Q_Il-K-BZ1LbX6CFDUStjZP4d4RcxpN_7_edxqkFz_mqEq-9731XLo2NBtjoAlMEWg2s/s640/decoration.jpg" width="520" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now ready for painting and tiling to begin!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Well that's the plan!<br />
We all know the best laid plans though......<br />
<br />
In position but not glued in - need to think of the wallpaper in here now....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigKLWfJ_bq8V8b25Vh4Vvb3ZMY2xWo5uI1dEwqh_4q17403eHZzTDoLbNNH6K-gi83tDLLpln6RqrffgEi9qEo4CB5z4Bs_NYemIRtiSt4LMGMyny72Y_zm2pArL-mEZiX43O0sbDMcXI/s1600/airing+cupboard+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigKLWfJ_bq8V8b25Vh4Vvb3ZMY2xWo5uI1dEwqh_4q17403eHZzTDoLbNNH6K-gi83tDLLpln6RqrffgEi9qEo4CB5z4Bs_NYemIRtiSt4LMGMyny72Y_zm2pArL-mEZiX43O0sbDMcXI/s640/airing+cupboard+006.JPG" width="504" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Nothing is fixed in place yet<br />
<br />

I haven't done much work on this room apart from the tiling and the flooring.<br />
I have always planned on adding an airing cupboard in here indeed I had painted the hot water cylinder ages ago and came across it the other day whilst searching for something else.....<br />
I thought it would be a nice addition to a house of this type and a fun little project to do.<br />
I remember the airing cupboard at home when I was growing up and often had to go rooting in there for my clothes which my Mum had put in there to 'air off'...<br />
<br />
I began with a paint pot like this one..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The tins in the pantry had foreign labels on!<br />
They just had to be changed!<br />
I had bought a set of ready made 'tins' because I didn't know if I would be able to saw dowel accurately enough to make my own. After searching online and printing off a few more familiar 'names' I've now got a set of ones I recognise......not 100% certain if they're correct for the 1950s but they're better than the originals at least!<br />

The kitchen now benefits from a new cabinet made up from a Jane Harrop kit. I was a little daunted when I saw all the tiny pieces in the packet but I'm really pleased the way it has gone together. I remember one of these when I was a little girl in the 50s - ours was painted red and cream!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
I've had this kitchen table in situ for quite some time and I knew that I would need to 'do' something with it to make it look right.....</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It began life as a basic, white table. it now has a 'Formica' top and suffered from abit of ageing!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The gentleman of the house has just had his dinner and lady wife is about to begin baking...</div>
